Traynor Sinks Walsall

English Second Division side Walsall made their way from the English Midlands to Ayr for the first time on 11th October 1971 in a mid-season friendly to record a well earned 1-1 draw in a season that saw them eventually relegated.

The Midlands outfit were at Somerset Park again on 28th July 1998 in a pre-season friendly. Back in the English Second this time they left defeated by 1-0, courtesy of a John Traynor strike. Ironically Watford successfully gained promotion at the end of that season.
