White, Robert ‘Sprigger’ - Goalkeeper

Commonly known as ‘Sprigger’, Robert made his debut for Ayr United on 2nd November 1912. He was signed from Mossblown Strollers where he had a superb display against Ayr United Juniors in a cup competition. He had 9 shutouts in his first 10 games for United and was reportedly very unlucky to lose in that 10th game. 

A pub named after him was situated in Dudley in the West Midlands named the Sprigger’s Arms. Sadly it has gone now.

Williams, Alex. - Born in Glasgow - 15th January 1983 - Forward

Made his debut for Ayr United 4th August 2007 having played previously for Clyde, Ross County, Queen of the South, Morton and Stirling Albion, Alex made 36 full appearances for Ayr scoring 20 goals in the process ending up has Ayr’s top, and the league’s third top, scorer of the season.
