Templeton, Henry - Probably one of the most gifted and entertaining player ever to have played for Ayr United. Henry came to Ayr from Airdrieonians in August 1987 and terrorised opposition defenders as Ayr strolled to the Second Division Title. With the fans chanting Diego Marahenry’ as he darted one way and then the next, he epitomised the meaning of the word ‘character’.

Caught on televised matches his genious was seen by all. His champagne cigar celebrations at Stirling and Alloa at the end of 1987/88 season will never be forgotton.

He remained at Ayr for over 3 years.

Tickle, Bert - Attacker

Bert had come from Ayr Parkhouse, one of the teams that merged to form Ayr United. He finished that first season with 6 goals. On 21st August Ayr United and Queen’s Park played a testimonial for this servant to both Ayr Parkhouse and the fledgling Ayr United. The 2-1 defeat for Ayr was of little importance.
