Island Select Swamped.

Ayr United took on a select side from Stornoway in an end of season friendly match on 27th April 1949 - the third of an arduous tour for Ayr.

The locals made the event a bit of a gala affair as Ayr United were certainly the biggest football team to have hit the island. The Honest Men were piped through the streets of the island capital prior to the match.

United also hit the Islanders on the field. There was not much the Stornoway Select could do to sweeten the hot shot United side and they could not match an efficient Ayr side who ran out 4-1 winners.
