Early Strife at Ochilview
Matches between the two clubs at Ochilview Park have been scarce due to the clubs playing largely in different divisions. One of the earliest on 12th September 1925 ended in a 5-0 win for the Warriors followed swiftly a few seasons later by a 6-2 defeat for the Honest Men. It was not until 1936 that Ayr were next at Ochilview and they achieved a 1-1 draw.
It was nine years before Ayr played there again and this time they managed to record their first win with a 6-0 score in a ‘B’ division match. The balance of power had changed since the war and Ayr obtained a 3-2 win on 9th March 1946 in the Scottish League Cup.
A 4-0 win on 11th February 1987 was followed by a 6-0 win on 3rd October 1987 during Ayr United’s second division championship winning season.
Ayr were drawn against Stenhousemuir in the 2nd round of the B&Q cup on 15th October 1991 winning by 2-0.
Leagues kept the clubs apart for most of the time although they were thrown together in seasons 1995/96 and 1996/97, United drawing one on 16th December 1995 and winning the other three by 1-0 on 13th April 1996 and by 2-1 in the matches of 7th September 1996 and 15th february 1997.
Since then there have only been two pre-season friendlies played at Ochilview on 14th July 2005 and 12th July 2006 which Ayr have won by 5-3 and 1-0 respectively.
