Festival of Britain Defeat for Ayr

1951 was Festival of Britain year and massive national celebrations took place. Football was not to be left out and matches took place up and down the length and breadth of the country. Ayr United took part by playing a series of matches in England, four matches in almost as many days. 

United’s third match was against Plymouth Argyle on 16th May 1951 at Home Park, Plymouth. Ian Harper scored for Ayr a 2-1 defeat which came from a disputed Argyle goal in 80 minutes.
