McLaughlan, Switcher - Attacker

Switcher as he was called came to Ayr from Kilwinning Rangers He finished that first season with 7 goals.

McLaren, Andy - Born in Glasgow on 5th June 1973 - Attacker

Andy came to Ayr later in his career making his debut for the club on 3rd March 2007. He scored three goals for United in his 13 appearances also managing a red card in between during season 2006/07. Injury curtailed his performances in 2007/08 although Andy still managed 4 appearances and a goal coming back from injury late in the season.

McMillan, Sam - Sad Sam as he was known was the youngest player ever to pull on an Ayr United jersey doing so at age 15.Sam_McMillan 

His debut as trialist was against Queen’s Park at Hampden in 1953 remaining at Ayr for 22 years - a one club man. 

He was a midfield maestro and a pivotal figure in establishing Ayr in the higher eschalons of Scottish Football in the 1960’s.

He hung up his boot in 1968 and moved into coaching taking Ayr to a Scottish Reserve League title in 1972. He briefly reigned as caretaker boss at Ayr after Ally McLeaod left for Aberdeen.

Massey, Lee - Goalkeeper

Lee played in goals for Ayr in there first season of 1910/11 and had helped United through some grim matches with excellent displays between the sticks. He carried on playing for Ayr until October 1912 when he left the club after suspension.

Moore, Michael - Striker

Michael played his first game for Ayr United on 4th August 2007 joining from Stranraer during the summer. He scored five goals in 18 appearances for Ayr before moving to Dumbarton in January 2008.

Murphy, John - Arguably the best left back of his time never to have had been selected for Scotland. John ‘Spud’ Murphy arrived at John_MurphyAyr in 1963 from Darvel and continued to play for Ayr for 15 years. 

A one club man, it was always claimed that if he had played for a more fashionable club then a series of Scotland caps would have been his.

John played over 500 matches for Ayr, winning promotion twice and helping Ayr maintain their position in the top flight of Scottish football. He was rewarded with a testimonial with a match against Danish club Aarhus in 1975.
