Evil Results at Easter Road
Easter Road, Edinburgh is not a happy ground for Ayr and during their disastrous relegation season of 1966/67 Ayr lost 4-0 to the Edinburgh Hibees. One of United’s worse results in the capital was an 8-1 hammering in December 1972.
A 2-1 win on 8th October 1977 was a forlorn glimmer of hope for Ayr in their struggle to fight relegation from the Premier League. In season 1980/81 Ayr travelled to the capital twice in three days, the first on 22nd October 1980 for a Bells League Cup quarter final 2nd leg tie and, after a 2-2 home match draw, beat Hibs 2-1 after extra time. They lost the league match on 25th October by 1-0.
