Victories at Tynecastle Park, Edinburgh are not the easiest thing to come by for Ayr United. The 1970’s saw some success, however, for the Honest Men, usually only by the odd goal.

On 15th December 1973, Christmas came early for Ayr with a 1-0 1st division win.

Ayr had a good 2-1 win in their 1976/77 Premier League campaign on 6th April 1977, a win which saved Ayr from relegation but consigned Hearts to 1st division football for a time. By the time Ayr recorded further wins, both clubs were playing first division football in season 1979/80 when Ayr won twice in the capital. On 3rd September 1979 the score was 1-0 in a Bells League Cup 2nd round 2nd leg match. United were no fools on 1st April 1980, although again it was still only a 1-0 win in a 1st division match.
