No Success for Burgh.
The first meeting between Ayr United and Highland League club Fraserburgh took place at Bellssea Par, Fraserburgh on 29th April 1949 - the fifth match in six days for United in an arduous end of season tour of the Highlands. The friendly match ended in a 3-0 win for the Honest Men.
The next match between the two was at Somerset Park on 22nd January 1966 in a Scottish Cup preliminary round match. The match ended in a 1-0 win for Ayr taking them through to the first round proper as it was then known.
Ayr United next played Fraserburgh on 28th July 1990 in the semi-final of the Buchan Cup - a pre-season cup competition at Peterhead's Recreation Park. United won by 3-1 with goals by Walker, Gillespie amd McAllister taking Ayr to a final match against Airdrieonians.
A matchday programme was produced.
The following season Ayr were once again lined up against Fraserburgh on 27th July 1991 in the semi-final of the same Buchan Cup competition and this time a Hood goal gave United a 1-0 win. Again Ayr went on to play Airdrieonians in the final.
Another tour of the Scottish Highlands took place in 1999 and again Ayr United lined up against Fraserburgh. Once again United gave Fraserbirgh no quarter and recorded a 6-1 win with goals from Bone (2), Hurst (2), Lindau and Bradford.
