Falkirk

Ally's 200th Game Occurs in Winning Style at Brockville.

Ayr United have never had a good record against Falkirk at Brockville although began well in that first ever visit to Falkirk on 8th September 1913 when Ayr United won 3-1. A few years later United won again, this time by 2-1. The early 20's produced a series of draws but on 20th October 1934 Ayr suffered a humilating 8-1 defeat in a first division match.

Results over the last few years have not been so kind although Ayr United did pull of a sensational victory at Brockville on 24th February 2001. A 2-1 win hauled Ayr into 2nd place in the league and launched an assault on the one and only promotion place, alas no to no avail.

However in the 8th May 1991 First Division clash at Brockville Park, Falkirk recorded an emphatic 4-1 victory.

Ayr were set up as the lambs to the slaughter for Falkirk, a part they played like naturals. Falkirk needed the points for promotion to the Premier League and there was never any doubt who would win. Simon Stainrod scored in 53 seconds and McGivern put them 2-0 up with 10 minutes to go. By the time Ian McAllister nodded Ayr's consolation in the last minute, another 2 had been despatched behind David Purdie, the unfortunate Ayr goalkeeper.

Another Ayr victory at Brockville occured on 9th September 1989 and the solitary goal scored in the 7th minute by David Kennedy gave Ally McLeod his 200th league win as manager.

United began season 2001/02 in good style with a 2-1 win at Brockville on 4th August 2001 and followed it up with an even better 2-0 victory on 15th December.
