East Stirling

Easy at Firs Park

Ayr United played their first ever match against East Stirling away at Merchiston Park, Falkirk on 24th September 1910 when a 2-2 draw was recorded. The return leg was a much more definitive affair as far as the Honest men were concerned as they won 4-0 on 17th December 1910. The clubd were still in the Scottish Second Division the following season and United won 2-0 at Ayr on 7th October 1911, but lost 1-0 at Falkirk on 16th March 1912.

Ayr were finding it difficult to win away and 0-0 was the score on 21st December 1912, but again the ‘Shire’ couldnt even score at Ayr, losing 3-0 on 11th January 1913.

Division’s kept the clubs apart until they finally met again on 10th October 1925. By this time East Stirling were at Firs Park, Falkirk and it turned out to be Ayr first ever victory winning by 4-2. East Stirling however maintained their lack of goals at Ayr losing 5-0 on 9th January 1926. They finally broke their duck on 13th November 1926, losing by 3-2, although Ayr lost 2-0 at Firs Park on 26th March 1927.

Despite this, Ayr have always found it easy to win at East Stirlingshire’s Firs Park, Falkirk. Ayr had a a few good wins in season 1980/81 the second being on 4th April 1981 by 3-1. A further 3-1 win was obtained on 27th March 1987.

Ayr United had a solid 2-0 win at ‘Shire’s neat ground on 24th October 1987 on the way to their 2nd division championship that season. Ayr United had to be content to win on penalties and after extra time in the B&Q cup match of 18th September 1994.
