Early Success for Ayr.

Coventry City made their first vist to Ayr United on 31st July 1991 only to suffer a 3-1 defeat at the hands of an inform United. The 1,939 fans saw goals from Ayr's Kennedy in 31 minutes, Graham, 48 minutes and Shaw 5 minutes from time.

A second visit from the Sky Blues was as fruitless when a typical pre-season crowd of 1,191 saw a 3-2 win for United again at Somerset Park on 24th July 1993.

The teams met again in another pre-season friendly exactly four years later on 24th July 1997 when Gordon Strachan's men had a bit of revenge for their two earlier defeats with a 3-0 win at Ayr in front of 1,180 fans.
