Success for Ayr

Ayr United embarked upon an exhausting tour of the Highlands at the end of season 1948/49 beginning with a visit to Buckie Thistle’s Victoria Park on 23rd April 1949. The result was a good 4-3 win for the Honest Men.

Exactly two years later, on 23rd April 1951 Ayr United made the long journey for a testimonial for Buckie Thistle’s Jim Leak.  After 30 minutes the home team were 3-0 up, however, United fought back and Ian Crawford scored his second, and Ayr’s third and equalising goal in 70 minutes.

Ayr United again made the long journey to Buckie on 7th February 1953 for a Scottish Cup 2nd round tie with Buckie Thistle.

United, who were in the ‘B’ division at the time, made the journey worthwhile with a superb 5-1 victory to take them through to a 3rd round tie with Clyde.

United also ventured forth to Victoria Park, Buckie on 25th January 1963 again in a Scottish Cup tie with United again winning, this time by 3-1.

A programme was issued for this match with the editor enthusing over playing Ayr United on Burns Day
