Ayr United embarked upon an exhausting tour of the Highlands at the end of season 1948/49 and began with a visit to Buckie Thistle’s Victoria Park on 23rd April 1949. The result was a good 4-3 win for the Honest Men.
On 23rd April 1950 Ayr United made the long journey fos a testimonial for Buckie Thistle’s Jim Leask. After 30 minutes the home team were 3-0 up, however, United fought back and Ian Crawford scored his second, and Ayr’s third and equalising goal in 70 minutes. It is unclear whether or not a programme was produced for this match.
Ayr United again made the long journey to Buckie on 7th February 1953 for a Scottish Cup 2nd round tie with Buckie Thistle.
United, who were in the ‘B’ division at the time, made the journey worthwhile with a superb 5-1 victory to take them through to a 3rd round tie with Clyde.
United also ventured forth to Victoria Park, Buckie on 25th January 1963 again in a Scottish Cup tie with United again winning, this time by 3-1.
