Non-Leaguers Too Good for Young Ayr
1951 was Festival of Britain year and massive national celebrations took place. Football was not to be left out and matches took place up and down the length and breadth of the country. Ayr United took part by playing a series of matches in England, four matches in almost as many days.
The second of this series of matches was against non-league Bedford Town on 14th May 1951. The 1-0 defeat suffered by Ayr was probably due more to the six reserves that they played, the full team having played just 2 days before and had another friendly two days later.
