Mixed Bag at Armadale

Ayr United and Armadale had their first encounters in season 1919/20 when the two were paired in the 3rd round of the Scottish Cup.

When the teams met at Armadale’s Voluntary Park on 21st February 1920, the Honest Men were expected to win comfortably however a superb effort by the home side earned a 1-1 draw. The replay at Somerset Park on 28th February should have been a formality, but Ayr let the momentum slip and ended up on the wrong side of a cup shock - losing 1-0 to the non- league side.
