Bob Ferrier was in charge when Ayr United took the field for the first season after the 2nd World War - a season that started in ‘B’ Division despite Ayr’s first division status prior to the war.
The Scottish Leagues’ decision enraged Ayr United supporters who argued that Ayr had been an established top flight club prior to the outbreak of the War. However the games ruling bodies felt that the re-organisation of the new leagues should reward those clubs who had continued to play in the various wartime competitions.
It was a disappointing season finishing a poor 11th in a 14 team division. The higher league pre-war times were to prove more scarce to a post war United.
A devastating 8-0 thrashing in the Scottish Cup was the low point of the season.
