ayrunited_crest03 Ayr United lost their manager once again during the close season and Jimmy Hay took over. This season was different, however, in that instead of a committee of selectors, the manager chose the team from now on.

The selectors may wish that they had been doing the job as the run of poor results ended up with Ayr experiencing relegation from Division 1.

Even with this relegation United achieved some recognition. Wembley played host to its’ first ever international fixture as England and Scotland fought out a 1-1 draw. Scotland’s two full backs that day were Ayr United’s Jock Smith and Phil McCloy
